Calatherm launches battery thermal managementsystem at the Vehicle Electrification Expo

Calatherm, a UK-based manufacturing company specialising in thermal management systems for vehicles, has recently launched their latest battery thermal management system (BTMS), which was unveiled at the Vehicle Electrification Expo, in July 2025 at the NEC, Birmingham.

Calatherm is a tailored thermal management solutions provider for mobile vehicles, specialising in bespoke solutions for both occupants and vehicle sub-systems across onhighway and off-highway applications.

The BTMS is a vital subsystem in any electric vehicle (EV) and hybrid electric vehicle (HEV). Its primary function is to regulate the temperature of the battery pack, keeping it within an optimal operating range, regardless of external conditions or driving demands. Calatherm’s BTMS can provide both cooling and heating simultaneously. This can provide reduced battery power consumption through the heat recovery from the batteries and other drivetrain systems to then be used to heat the cabin.

Daniel Jackson, Business Development Director at Calatherm, explained: “With all eyes on Electric Vehicles, we believe the biggest innovation gaps and opportunities lie around thermal management. Smarter thermal systems improve range, safety and battery reliability, and our BTMS plays a vital role in the battery cooling strategy while supporting further subsystems for OEMs to consider.”

Without effective thermal management, batteries are susceptible to extreme temperatures, which can lead to reduced driving range, longer charging times, faster degradation, or, in severe cases, thermal runaway. This temperature control is essential for ensuring consistent power delivery and charging efficiency, improving safety by preventing overheating, and extending the overall lifespan of the battery by reducing thermal stress on the cells.

Daniel Jackson concluded, “The response to the launch of our battery thermal management system was extremely positive, with significant interest surrounding its capabilities in a huge range of sectors. While there is no “one size fits all” solution, we are very excited about what our BTMS can offer our current and future customers, working with them closely to develop a tuneable system that best supports their specific application and vehicle requirements.”
